the way i see it

Created by Cailin Leigh with support from Stacie Flood-Popp and Found Movement Group

the way i see it is an exercise on perspective. Created in 2018/2019 with Found Movement Group, this work was created to give the audience agency to test their own biases. Inspired by the extreme polarization dividing the nation post the 2016 USA election and what I saw as an inability to have conducive conversations around difference of views, I wanted to explore how a dramatization of our current state could highlight the hypocrisy and turmoil we were in, as well as offer insight into how to better connect with each other.

In order to create the viewing experience necessary, we built out our own in-the-round stage in a warehouse space and then divided the space in half with a scrim. Each side of the stage telling two different perspectives to a story- it is up to the audience to choose whether or not they care to ‘see the other side’. A semi-immersive performance, performers break the edge of the space to bring certain audience members into the narratives. Projection and lighting feed glimpses of silhouettes onto the other side, allowing the audience the decision to venture over or not.
